One Year

My fingers run across the pages of the photo albums that my mother kept so plump with photographs. "One year," I think to myself. One year without my mother. I reflect on just how much has changed in the past year - my first year of college, getting my first tattoo, etc. Out of all of the things that inspire my photography, flipping through all of my family's old photos is one. I just love looking at all of the photos that my mom took of me. My mom never liked being in photos, she just loved to take them; so most of the photos are of me and my Dad. The few that I have of the two of us, are some of my favorite .

Brimfield

(Thrifted overall dress, Free People crop top, Urban Outfitters bag, Converse chucks.)

Yesterday I headed south to Brimfield, Massachusetts for their annual antique show with my soon-to-be roommate, Sophie. It was my first time going, so naturally I was in heaven. I had been to flea markets before, but nothing like Brimfield! For those of you who are not from the New England area; the Brimfield fair is a flea market that stretches for miles and miles! We spent the entire day wandering among the rows and rows of antiques and collectibles searching for treasure. I didn't go too-too crazy; I did buy quite a few pendants, a palm reading guide, and an awesome pair of pinstriped overalls. I will be posting about those at some point this week.

Through the Fog

Free People sweater and Urban Outfitters necklace.

I ventured out into the fog today with my good friend Lexii. The last time we worked together was last summer. Long story short, it was definitely time for a new one. I received an amazing telephoto lens from my Dad for my birthday so I was also anxious to use that. It is not exactly your everyday lens, but it sure does help in producing some lovely portraits. I'm pretty happy with the way they came out. I can't wait to take more!

From Singapore, With Love

I received a package all the way from Singapore today! It was sent to me by my aunt, uncle, and cousins. The last time I saw them was when I was 6. Since my mother's passing it has been very hard for me to keep in touch with them. It meant a lot to me to be able to open the package and feel all of the love they have for me. I hope they know just how much I love and miss them. I hope to visit them in Singapore soon!

Twenty

Today was my 20th birthday. It is so hard to believe that I have been on this earth for two decades. For me, 20 feels like the year when a person leaves adolescence behind. When you turn 18 you're still technically a teenager. Sure you gain a handful of new privileges (being able to vote, buy lottery tickets, etc.) But once you turn 20, you are no longer a teenager, you have entered into your twenties.

As exciting as this might be, the age is still a bit daunting. 20? Doesn't that seem like a bit of a jump from 19? Yes, it sure does. I just remind myself that I thought the same thing on my last three birthdays and I got over that pretty quick. It will soon come naturally for me to say "Oh I'm 20."

This was my first birthday without my mother. She succumbed to breast cancer last summer so I was expecting this birthday to be a lot harder than it was. I think that being surrounded by my family and friends was a big help. I could never have made it through without them. Here is to another 20 years!
