we've got bowls

I've always loved food. As a pescatarian it's always been a bit difficult to find food that's not only red meat and poultry free but also healthy. Sweetgreen has been my go-to ever since I started going there on my lunch breaks when I started working at Free People a few years ago.

So when Jenn and Tony from the sweetgreen marketing team reached out to me about participating in one of their "sweetgreen suppers" I was thrilled! 5 (2) friends and some free salad? I couldn't have thought of a better Wednesday night.

My favorite salad? The harvest bowl, with falafel instead of chicken. Hit up your local sweetgreen for yummy bowls like these!

The Benefits of Traveling Solo

Earlier this month I traveled to the Dominican Republic...alone. I've had a whirlwind of a year - graduating college, getting promoted, moving home, etc. So I haven't had a ton of time to focus on myself and recharge. And that was what this trip was all about - me.

I've always loved being around people. I find that my mood typically reflects that of the people around me, so when I'm left alone for too long my mood gets weird. But I've been working through that. I spent the first chunk of my vacay solo, kind of shying away to other people. "I'm here to be alone," I would tell myself. After a few days though, I made some friends and it was a blast. I spent the days being a beach bum, drinking pina coladas and reading. My nights were spent with my new friends drinking Presidente and dancing at the resort's club.

I learned a lot about myself during my stay in the DR. I learned that I need time alone to be able to do as I please without other people's input. I also learned that I hate getting set into a routine. I need change, even though change has always been something I've been afraid of. This trip helped me get in touch with myself and I really hope that I'll be able to get another opportunity like this in the future.

If you're looking for a little change in scenery and some me-time, do it, go on vacation alone. You won't be sorry!

New Chapters

(Free People dress and sunnies, Charlotte Russe Shoes (similar), and Madewell backpack)

For me, there's nothing like the perfect maxi. The print is perfect, the fit is perfect, and the embroidery is killer. It's been the perfect summer go-to and I cannot wait to wear it into the fall!

I know I have been awful about updating this blog, but now that I've moved back home and have some more time on my hands, I'll be sure to keep up with this!

A lot has happened in the last few months - I graduated college, got promoted and moved back home. Things are very different than they were a year ago and I'm excited to see what'll happen for me next.

New Adventure

I am a firm believer in fate, I believe that everything happens for a reason. If life is just a series of unplanned events, then I have no clue what I'm doing. So far 2016 has been a year of growth.

I spent the very beginning of this year regrouping from a series of events that really put me through the ringer. It seemed as if nothing was going right for me. For a while, I felt as if I was afloat in the sea with no way of knowing where I was going. I knew that while I was unsure of my place in the scheme of things, that I had to keep pushing on. Nothing would come from sitting and marinating in my woes. I'm so young, I've got my whole life ahead of me. Not to be cliche but hey it's true.

I focused my energy on the things I always used to - school, work and my friends. Well, it seems that this energy was well spent. I will be beginning my new adventure as the Assistant Store Manager of Free People Chestnut Hill and I couldn't be happier!

For those of you who might be going through a rough time just remember that you may be less sure of your place in the scheme of things, but out of this period of not knowing, a higher truth can emerge.

I promise.

Staycation

(Design Lab jacket, Free People bodysuit and flares, and ASOS belt)

Last year, I did your typical spring break. I spent my week off from school sunning myself on the beaches of St. John. It was an amazing and relaxing experience and I returned with a nice tan, ready to take on the rest of my semester.

This year went a little differently.

I spent this spring break at work. While I was a little bummed to not be sitting out by the pool on my last break of college, I was happy to be able to spend some time regrouping from the last 6 weeks school.

Like most people, I find running a million miles a minute (mentally) pretty draining. We all require some time to reset our minds and bodies. I chose to do this through doing yoga daily. Just having this 60 minutes of time to set an intention for myself and breath through my challenges.

So you might not be traveling this spring break. There are a number of things you can do instead. Spend some of your free time reading that book you've been meaning to finish, go explore a new area of your city or just catch up with friends who are staying in town too!

Beacon Hill Hangs

I had an awesome time shooting with some of my ladies at Free People Boston. We spent a Sunday afternoon wandering the sunny streets of Beacon Hill. The weather was gorgeous and got us all very excited for the warm days ahead.

Lush Life

If there is one thing that calms me down (other than yoga) it's a long soak with a bath bomb from Lush. After a long snowy Monday, I was pretty thankful to be able unwind in a bath full of tropical blue water.

Love Your Body

With Valentine's Day right around the corner and being newly single, you'd think I would be a hot mess of insecurity. On the contrary, I feel pretty empowered. So I felt inspired to share what I've discovered recently.

Looking back, I was always a little insecure. I sprouted boobs and hips earlier than most in my class and my hair was curly and frizzy and absolutely refused to be tamed. Today I embrace those qualities I once despised. I have come to accept these qualities; even love them. This is what has truly made me happy.

I think about all the women out there, young and aging, who are insecure and uncomfortable with themselves. I'm dedicating this post to any woman who has ever been made to feel anything but beautiful by society.

You are beautiful, ladies, you just can't see it yet.

Some of you might find this post a bit out of character or inappropriate, but to that I will say, "Hey, it's all for the kids, I'm trying to make a statement."

Scenes from the South End

I spent my Saturday exploring the South End. In my four years living in Boston, I've never really had the opportunity to hang out in this area so I decided to spend my day off wandering around. We started the day with brunch at Masa, took a little trip to the dog park and then ended the afternoon with some goodies from Blackbird Doughnuts.

As I walked along the cobblestone sidewalks, it felt as if I was in an entirely different city altogether. I'm always astounded by just how big Boston is for such a small city. There are so many spots that I haven't had the chance to see and I live here! I really hope to be able to explore a little more of my amazing city before I leave.

Philly

What an adventure this month has been! Right smack in the middle of my trip to Nashville, I was given the opportunity to interview for a Free People Home Office interview. While the position did not end up working out I had a fantastic time exploring Home Office with my good friend, Emma. The only way I could possibly describe my time at Home Office was that it was an absolute daydream.

Until next time Philly!
